Why you NEED to take risks in your company to succeed

Why you NEED to take risks in your company to succeed:

Nobody’s business flourished from sitting at home doing nothing. Successful businesses are born from hard work, determination, and a whole lot of gambling. By gambling, I don’t mean actual gambling, but starting your own business takes confidence and the ability to risk your livelihood on yourself and your ability to create. Taking a risk is pivotal for imminent success, especially if you are an at-home worker. Here are some reasons why you need to take a risk on yourself and your business.

  • 24. Take Your Business On the Road: A fun and productive way to see the rest of your country while looking to make that first sale.
I did this when I first started, I traveled to lots of county towns in England and visited the best boutiques. I was quite successful, lots of shops bought and rebought products.

  • 25. Get a sales rep: Sometimes getting that first sale is a quick endeavor but sustainable growth in sales quickly makes you realize how tough it can be to be a one-person sales team, especially if your product requires a little more convincing than traditional consumer goods.

EVERYTHING ELSE

  • 28. Tell Family and Friends: Your network of friends and family will most likely be your easiest first sales. You may not want to sell to them, but this is a powerful way to kickstart word of mouth for your business. Ask your friends to like and follow you on social media!

  • 29. Participate on Forums: Participating in online forums can be an amazing way to get your business in front of the right audience.

  • 30. Demonstrate Trust and Security: A major hurdle all small online retail businesses have to face when they are just starting out is getting consumers to trust doing business with them. You need to make sure that your website appears trustworthy.

31. Delegate and Get Things Done: When you're first starting out, it feels like the entire world is on your shoulders. Decide which tasks to do yourself and which ones you should be delegating in order to run your business efficiently and maximize sales.

ABOUT HER
She is an innovative designer with experience in roles as a senior jewelry designer. She has worked for a variety of well-known luxury and high street brands. For the last 13 years, she has been spent immersed in a world of precious stones, costume jewelry, trims, beads, vintage jewelry and antique artifacts sourced from around the world.
She has also honed her jewelry making skills and production knowledge, not only by creating collections for various brands across the High Street but by building her own brand SB where she makes one of a kind jewelry by using and restoring old antique components with Swarovski Crystals.
She embraces the challenge of taking on new projects and conceptualizing and creating innovative jewelry.

Q&A

What motivated & inspired you to start your business?
SHEENA: I have worked in jewelry design for 15 years designing for all the UK High Street retailers and concessions in Galerie Lafayette Paris.
There has always been this inner fire within me to try to break the norm within the design, break and redefine the boundaries of how objects should be used or worn.  Tired of designing throw away fashion items, I really wanted to create unique diverse collections which inspired people, evoked a sense of amazement, excitement and shows craftsmanship and skill.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS
Would you describe your career as a passion?
SHEENA: Passion is all I am  I’Mextremely passionate about Art, Design and what I do. I love creating and making new pieces it’s a feeling I can't really describe in words it's just an inner sense this is who I am. I knew I wanted to be a designer from the age of 10.

What part of being a designer do you prefer? The Creative, Sales, social or marketing side?
SHEENA: I love the design part the post but also the social side as I love meeting new people, talking and discussing MTM orders and also making people feel happy with what they have bought.

WHAT ideas did you take action on/steps YOU TOOK TO GET YOUR BUSINESS UP AND RUNNING?
SHEENA: It was helpful for me to be able to do this as I had been working within the industry for 15 years and also had the experience of traveling and working in many European and far countries. It was this experience I have been able to gain a sense of what is required to have a jewelry business.

What is required for marketing, merchandise, aesthetically? What sells and what level of finish and quality you need to maintain in the business? What has been the most effective way of building your tribe for your business and getting new customers?
SHEENA: The most effective for me has been social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram but I also know a lot of stylists and buyers in the industry. This has helped to strengthen my tribe for business. Also, word of mouth a great book sums a lot of this up really well, book title purple cow by Seth Godwin.

Who do you follow to get inspiration?
SHEENA: Inspiration for me isn't from one source it's everything around me. I visit and go out to lots of fashion events, museums, private views, exhibitions and it's always inspirational.

What have been your biggest challenges so far?
SHEENA: I know that commercial pieces always sell better but I'm so tired of commercial jewelry that in actual fact I could potentially be earning lots more money but have made a choice to be bespoke from beginning to end. so the challenge has been financial.

How did you overcome these challenges?
SHEENA: I have overcome this problem by having additional services like loaning jewelry out for stylists to use for fashion events, runway shows or magazines. I also advise and repair jewelry for clients. the key thing in any business to be open, versatile in your approach, love what you do.

What do you love the best about running your own design business?
SHEENA: I love being in control of my design and in charge of what I want to place in my collection. I sometimes feel in fashion jewelry it's always about the next season but still feel that you can follow trends but still re use certain styles in the next collection by re inventing some styles.

What advice would you give to other creative entrepreneurs?
SHEENA: I would say to stay focused, be yourself, try to enjoy the process, be clear what direction you want your business to take, what you want from the business, and what you want to achieve and what time frames you want to get this done by. but to still smile.and try not to be overwhelmed with the business side.

How do you keep motivated when you are having a bad day?
SHEENA: I dance I'm an artist in many different ways, I feel it helps me to loosen and open my mind to creativity.

What are your main inspirations?
SHEENA: My main inspirations would be music, colour, art, painting.

What platforms do you use to sell you products on?
SHEENA: A lot of social media and my contacts I have with stylists and people I now within the industry, also blogger events.

What ones are the most successful for you?
SHEENA: Social media and bloggers events.

What is your objective in your business? what do you want to achieve?
SHEENA: To innovate, create new designs that open the eye to the way we see and wear jewelry.

What advice would you give someone who is starting out?
SHEENA: Just keep trying and believe.

Do you have any tips on tools that you use ie apps, websites, online things to help your business?
SHEENA: I look at lots of different blogs as you can find endless information from them.

7 Ways to Generate Publicity

7 Ways to Generate Publicity

Publicity is a blessing to any business regardless of the platform. Efficient, cost effective and great longevity are only some of the benefits of publicity. Also, as public standing rises and more people become aware of the services a business can offer, sales will naturally increase. Consumers response to genuine coverage of a business is more positive than that of advertisements. Rather than feeling overwhelmed and unsure with the quality of service, (good) publicity ensures that consumers feel as though they can depend on said business; an article or media coverage holds a stronger and more respected presence amongst users. However, generating publicity for your business can be extremely difficult. In a world of highly completive industries, obtaining strong publicity and a resilient public standing involves effort and determination.

So… here are 7 ways to generate publicity for your business!

1.    Develop A Contact List

Creating a list of editors, newspapers, magazines and bloggers who you find align with your businesses image is key. Their information is easy to find and building a relationship with said connections can come in handy when you are looking to broaden your public reach. Don’t be shy to reach out to these people (they are looking to network too)!

2.   Write and Send Press Releases

Press releases are imperative when it comes to generating publicity. They can be used on your company’s website and social media sites while also being used as an informative tool for contacts.

There are many business’ looking for publicity who use this strategy; MAKE SURE YOU STAND OUT! Develop a clear and strong headline to draw the reader into your information. Place all the necessary points in the beginning of your press release so that editors do not have to search for information. At the bottom of your release include a description and general details about your company in order to provide a fully developed image for the reader to consider. Sending out these press releases once a month to your contact list will ensure that your information is being seen by the right people!

3.   Invite Press

Every business hosts an event at some point, why not invite the press? Inviting the media to have an up-close and personal experience with your business and what it has to offer can result in possible coverage at said medias platform. Even if the press figures you invite do not attend your event, at least they will have you in their system. Send a press release to the media you are inviting so that they are completely aware of the event and how their role can benefit both companies.

4.   Use Social Media

In this age of technology, maintaining platforms on social media is imperative. Take advantage of this free publicity opportunity by creating a page on the platforms you feel your business is best geared towards. However, be conscious of what you are putting out onto the web and how it will relate to your target customer. Focusing your coverage is an easy way to ensure a substantial and appropriate social media presence that can appeal to your consumers without overwhelming them.

5.    REACH OUT

Your business will not reach a decent public standing without work right? So, reach out! Reach out to contacts, bloggers, editors, old friends, anyone and everyone who might be interested in what your company has to offer. Put yourself on their radar and demonstrate a proper initiative; it will show your contact that you are interested in their platform and are serious about your work. Remember, the worst thing they can do is say no!

6.   Get Involved

Increasing your presence in the community is a great way to put your companies name out there while building a positive reputation! Whether it’s working with a local charity or participating in a volunteer event, philanthropy is always beneficial! Also, mention to the charity you are working with that you would love to work with them in the future and would be interested in writing for them or appearing at a next event as a guest. Broadening your network and contact list is never a bad thing.

7.    Maintain a Proper Image

There is such thing as bad press! Publicity will do no good (in fact, it will do the opposite) if your image and reputation is not respectable. Consumers want nothing to do with companies that are not appreciated in the public eye. Maintaining a proper image is key to ensuring that your business benefits from the publicity you have worked so hard to generate!
