Why you NEED to take risks in your company to succeed:
Nobody’s business flourished from sitting at home doing nothing. Successful businesses are born from hard work, determination, and a whole lot of gambling. By gambling, I don’t mean actual gambling, but starting your own business takes confidence and the ability to risk your livelihood on yourself and your ability to create. Taking a risk is pivotal for imminent success, especially if you are an at-home worker. Here are some reasons why you need to take a risk on yourself and your business.
A perfectly organised business is the pipe dream every hard working hustler strives to achieve. What if I told you there might not be such thing as a "perfect business" but what I like to call a healthy work-life balance? For many, their business is their life, and their life is business, which can get pretty hectic if you ask me. During the holiday season this business-life duo can be put on full blast, as all the exciting festivities may bring a lot of overwhelming responsibilities and tasks. In a world where technology is at your fingertips, this ability to bring work on the go can be a good and a bad thing, depending on how it is treated. The “clock out” mentality seems to have been tossed aside, and ideas and minds are always “on”. How can you stay organized and out of your own mind while still keeping on top of your business? Lets discuss.
One of the best websites I have stumbled upon is called Trello, also known as your saving grace for staying cool, calm and collected. Leaving brilliant ideas in random notebooks and journals was good for a while, until these million dollar ideas slowly became forgotten about. Trello is a free and easy online project management website that uses cards, boards, checklists, and labels to help outline a clear and concise to do list. Trello allows anyone to create a private list or even assign team members or co-workers to see what is being worked on, who is working on what, and the progress of each task. The visual aspect of this website makes it so appealing to the viewer, allowing every idea to be separated in its own box, easily adjustable and extremely visually appealing.
The three main components to Trello are: Boards, Lists, and Cards.
The board, which is used to house your entire project, is where lists and cards can be viewed. Edits can be made to these sections, and the board is what houses all your tasks. Multiple boards can be made, or one board can house all the projects that you manage.
Lists are exhibited on the boards. These lists are columns that categorize and catalog the tasks on your board. Not only are these lists extremely useful, they are also very visually appealing, allowing for a clean and concise board. Lists can be modified and edited, allowing you to change their names, adding or subtracting them. Within these lists are the Cards.
Cards are the little projects any team member, or just yourself, can work on within a specific list. When you click on a card, details appear and you can add things like checklists, due dates, attachments, and team members can even attach files. If you click on the bottom or the back of a card, you can see the progress of each card, to ensure this task is being performed.
Trello is a great tool to keep organised, staying out of your head and leaving your thoughts somewhere more visual, and less cluttered! Here are an additional five tips to stay organized during a hectic workweek or holiday period.
1. Clean, organise, and purge your workspace. When staying on top of tasks it is vital to work in a space that is free of clutter, waste and anything non-vital to work related responsibilities. When working with physical files and paperwork, it is extremely beneficial to categorize and label each separate file, making it aesthetically pleasing and easy to view. Buy new files in different colors, and organising them by color; green for financial papers, purple for clients, and so on. Labeling these files alphabetically within each color scheme and adding titles is a great way to keep separate files, separate!
2. Buy one calendar to house all upcoming events. Purchasing one calendar to record and keep track of everything is a great way to visually see responsibilities as opposed to letting them get lost in your mind! If you’re maintaining more than one person’s schedule, use different colored ink to record information for each person.
3. Make a note on your calendar, one week prior to any event, on what is needed for that event. Not only making a one-word note about an event, but writing what to bring is extremely helpful and helps remind you how to stay prepared.
4. Make a list of your goals. Writing out personal or professional goals for the future (whether it be upcoming weeks or months) helps keep you on track. Put this list away for a bit, and check it every now and then to monitor your progress.
Choose one or two goals you want to accomplish this year with your business. Maybe it’s to make more money or to gain clients. How will you achieve this goal? What amount of money will you make this year? How will you do it? Write this information out in a clear sentence and put it by your bedside, or a place you go to every day. Read it every morning to help inspire you and remind yourself of these goals.

I did this when I first started, I traveled to lots of county towns in England and visited the best boutiques. I was quite successful, lots of shops bought and rebought products.

Melanie Falvey is a jeweler and interior lifestyle designer she creates beautiful surroundings all around the world. She believes in the power of beauty as a means to achieving a healthier and happier home and workspace. She approaches every project from a holistic point of view, taking into account not only the aesthetics but also the emotional aspects of a space and its inhabitants.

WHAT MOTIVATED & INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?
Well I was designing weddings and interiors (I still do) and I used to make jewellery to relax and de stress in between projects. And then one day, I thought, hey, why don´t I do this properly? Set up a business and start selling my designs?
That´s how it all started and it´s proven to be a great combination, I wouldn´t want to give up any of my creative businesses.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS
I am a jewellery designer and I also handcraft most of my designs. I believe jewellery has the power to connect us to past, present and future and I love how it is infused of life´s special moments.
In many happy moments in a person´s life, there is a piece of jewellery that will remind them of those feelings and emotions.
I just love how it is another vehicle to create and feel happiness.
My mission is to fill a person´s life with happy moments, whether it is through creating beautiful surroundings for them or a special piece of jewellery.
WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CAREER AS A PASSION?
Most of my memories even when I was really young involve making jewellery or decorating parties or rooms in the house, so I definitely know my career is my passion-how lucky is that!
What part of being a designer do you prefer? The Creative, Sales, social or marketing side?
I really enjoy designing, and to be honest, I would say Social media and marketing are really fun too once you know what you are doing! Tech was a bit of a challenge at first but now it´s (almost) a breeze!
WHAT IDEAS DID YOU USE TO GET YOUR BUSINESS UP AND RUNNING?
I just did it! I always take immediate action on my ideas, I cannot help doing so. I get so excited about them, I couldn´t imagine waiting for them to materialise…I need to get them started.
I obviously don´t put out every crazy idea I have…I sit on them or sleep on them, ha ha ha but if the excitement doesn'tfade, I take action!
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY of building your tribe for YOUR BUSINESS AND GETTING NEW CUSTOMERS?
I would say social media and holding pop up events because , although differently, they allow you to make connections, get to know them and establish relationships.
Who do you follow?
I would say…everybody who has talent! I admire so many designers it would be hard to name just a few.
Obviously the master jewellers are a huge inspiration : Cartier, Bvlgari, Boucheron…but I love many contemporary jewellers too.
WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGES SO FAR?
Probably sales are always tricky because you need to be your own judge and put your designs out there and you always feel a bit vulnerable. You do get more confident though as time goes by and when you see the response in the customers.
HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
I still try to overcome them day by day. I think as creatives and business owners we are always learning, growing, trying new things. I would say not a single day goes by that I don´t learn something new about the business, the craft or even myself.
But I love that ever “keep learning” attitude, so it´s not a burden whatsoever.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE the best ABOUT RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
I get to create what I envision, literally in many aspects. I create designs, I create my schedule, I create my lifestyle…it´s a whole lot of freedom (even though you need to be responsible about it, obviously).
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER creative ENTREPRENEURS?
Definitely get yourself some business education.
HOW DO YOU KEEP MOTIVATED when you are having a bad day?
Well, that´s exactly what I do in my other business, I create workspaces that maintain your motivation high and that enable you to perform at your best and highest potential. So, in my case, my workspace/studio is the perfect container for my creativity and productivity and I have triggers and resources in place to avoid bad days. I only have bad minutes, once I use my own tools, the day rolls again.
I believe having a supportive environment, especially for entrepreneurs is vital.
What are you main inspirations?
Almost everything I see is an inspiration.
But I would say my collections are inspired in archaeology, history,nature, celebrations, mood and empowerment.
What platforms do you use to sell you products on?
Right now I am re branding so I am setting up my own e-commerce. I was selling on other e-commerce platforms but I want to grow my BTC to be able to offer them a complete shopping experience. I feel that if I have control of the whole process, I can really cater for them.
Do you have any marketing tips to share with our members?
Create a solid brand and be cohesive. You can always switch things up later on or do a complete re brand but while you are at each stage, make sure it is solid and consistent.

19 Tips for marketing your new creative business!
So it's time to start thinking about marketing and what you can do to build up your website traffic!
I have been researching a few ways to do this and listed them below, enjoy!
Produce your own press release and send that out to magazines and bloggers, make sure it is relevant to them.
Take a look at a blog post I wrote on 7 ways to generate publicity.
Make sure that your website is hosted in a good place that will fit your needs, Shopify and Squarespace provide great templates to launch a successful online store. Shopify has loads of plugins to help with analytics and SEO.
Squarespace has some lovely templates to choose from, both of my websites are on square space, its’ easy to use and effective.
It can be difficult to rank high if you are new but keep at it, do a lot of research on SEO and make sure you use your tag words and optimise your site really well.
4) Google Adwords
Although they can be expensive people find them very effective.
Check what keywords are relevant to your brand and products and set up a monthly budget to bid on both short and long tail keywords. Make use of the guidance that Google reps will give you on these keywords during your account setup.
Are those little ads that follow you around the web? Have you ever looked at a bag and then realised it’s following you everywhere? Have you ever decided to purchase those boots because you can’t seem to forget about them? That is the brilliance of re-marketing.
6) Create a blog and post high-quality content regularly.
One of the great ways to market your business online is by building a blog where you can post and share high-quality content that adds a high amount of value on a regular basis. This won't pay off overnight but works if you can stick with it. Consistency is key.
This helps to drive traffic via Google and helps to give you authority.
7) Connect with others in LinkedIn groups.
Connect with people in groups, don’t be spammy, post and chat with new contacts.
8) Instagram influencers.
With today’s social media we can reach thousands of people from all over the world, a few years ago this would not have been possible so take advantage of it.
You need power users and influencers to help spread your messages. This isn’t always free but it will give you instant access to a wide audience.
If you have 500 followers try approaching someone with a few thousand, if you have 2000 try contacting someone with 5000 instead of someone with 34’000, it may be cheaper or free if you can build a relationship.
9) Market your content on Medium and Quora.
This is new to me but sounded very interesting so please have a look at these.
Apparently, If you have a fairly new domain -- less than 2 years old with little authority built up -- you should work on marketing your content on sites like Medium and Quora.
How does it work? Write one high-quality piece of content on your website. Ensure that whatever you're talking about helps people in some way, shape or form.
Once you've done that, write another article on a site like Medium or Quora, also making sure that it's keyword-centric, insightful, unique and adds a lot of value. Create one link from that article using a primary or relevant keyword back to the main article on your site or blog. This is called content marketing, and it's the most powerful method for gaining traction on Google's SERPs, while also reaching large existing audiences through these authority sites as well. Thank you, Google.
10) Implement the 80-20 rule to identify and market to high-value clients.
Identify which clients that are generating the most income for your business, you can then create more sales by sending them additional offers and discounts for other services and products.
11) Create You Tube videos
It would be great to create some useful videos that teach people things, for example, if you are creative you could teach people about your craft, you never know you might be the next You Tube sensation!
Be sure to drop a link inside the description back to relevant content on your site.
Make sure you have a pop-up on your website asking your website visitors to register and join your mailing list in exchange for a one-time free gift or discount, it’s a great way to start building your email list.
I know a designer who makes most of her money via newsletters to clients, they are very stylised and get to the point. She often puts on a sale and offers this to special people on her list.
She also interviews successful women who have worn her garments, nice touch.
13) Work with popular bloggers
Reaching out to popular bloggers in your line of work, this is an effective way to market your business online, especially if you have something of value to add to one of their posts.
If you are a good writer offer your services as a guest blogger.
14) Regularly contribute on forums.
Join in on conversations and add value before you try to drop a link.
Add value. Chat with others. Make suggestions. Answer questions.
15) Build consumers on platforms like Yelp and Trust Pilot.
Encourage your clients to leave good reviews, this is a great way to build customer trust.
16) Giveaway with a partner
Find something that you can give away and partner with another company, group or professional in your field. You should be able to gain new clients this way so choose someone who may have the same clientele as yourself.
17) Give a talk at a professional conference or on a webinar.
I have given a lot of talks in the past to corporate companies and members clubs, it’s a good way to get known in your area.
18) Use Facebook ads and strategically-targeted landing pages.
Facebook ads are not free, you can use interests, geographic location, marital status, age and many others to help find your customers.
It’s a good idea to send them to an opt in page after they click on your ad instead of your website and have an offer on the page.
19) Offer a free product or service to customers.
You could offer a free 15-minute teaching course or skype conversation, they can ask questions and you can help by answering and giving tips...
Make sure you get the customer's contact details so you can get in touch with them later. You can then offer them a back end product that they need to pay for.
People are more likely to buy after they have had something for free.
Things take time, be authentic, take care of your customers, in the end, you will be extremely successful, I can feel it! X x x

Motivation & How we can get more of it.
Do you feel that you are the only person lacking in this? everyone on Facebook seems to have it all together but you don't?
Well you are wrong, everyone always puts the perfect representation of themselves on social media but it doesn't mean that they have it together, we all lack motivation on occasions and we all have to push through it.
Life does tend to get in the way sometimes and we lose motivation, this has certainly happened to me recently, and I am sure it's happened to you.
When you get busy and life seems out of your control it can be hard to pick yourself up and carry on.
I have certainly been guilty of this recently and I must apologies for it, I started the ICW with a load of excitement and then burnt myself out. My millinery business went into overdrive during the summer months, we moved house, I went through IVF and a very important family member suddenly passed away. This all happened over two months so I know how things can suddenly creep up on you, even if you think you have everything covered.
If you ever feel burnt out or overworked, please take some time out.
"Time out you say! How can I take any time out, I have so much to do" Well we always have something to do but if you don't look after yourself you will find it hard to get your motivation back.
A couple of tips that might help you in case this happens again are to-
· Batch your work ahead of time, have things in the wings so you can take a holiday and still have blog posts saved for publication.
· Another tip would be to make time in your calendar every season to take a short break, even if you don't think you need it you will be grateful for it later.
MOTIVATION that's what you need and I have 9 amazing tips to help with this.
I know that you love what you do, and I know that you want to be a big success, the only way to achieve that is to keep going, especially when you feel like giving up.
1. Do something every day that scares you
For instance, if you are scared to phone clients, buyers or prospects, make sure you pick up that phone and call 5 in a day. At least one, if not all will give you some positive feedback and you might even get some work from it, wouldn'tthat be a boost!!
It has always worked for me so I don't know why I used to get myself into such a state about doing it, you always feel better in the end.
- Get your work out.
- Put some loud amazing music on!
- · Get to it!
- · Take those small steps to success!

2. Write out your goals, and visualise them down to the smallest detail.
Try to imagine what life would be like when you have accomplished them, imagine where you will be, what you will be wearing, how you will feel, the wind in your hair.
I sometimes imagine what it would be like to finally buy my dream home and what my life would be like, I imagine each room and what they would look like. I also dream about meeting clients in this house and holding fashion shows in the gallery, (this house is huge by the way).
Anyway, that's me, what would be your dream?
3. Ask yourself why you want to achieve these goals.
What will you get out of them once you succeed?
Write this out with a pen, studies have shown that this actually helps your brain to remember and focus on the goals. In our busy lives, we can easily forget why we are doing something and loose track.
I would suggest writing some goals out neatly, each one in a different colour and number them, pin these to a board above your computer or desk.
4. Set smaller rewards for yourself.
Break your larger goals into small actionable steps and give yourself a small reward when you hit these goals.
5. You cannot do this alone.
I would not expect you to do all this by yourself, no one can, I have certainly had help in the past and I love to help others, I couldn't have done it without them.
Think about who could help you with different tasks, who do you know among your family or friends who could help with little jobs?
Do you have any business acquaintances that could help or do you have an idea of anyone you could contact?
If you do then contact them but do not ask for help straight away, offer your own services first, maybe you could collaborate, or they might know someone who could help if they can't.
6. At some point, you might flag.
If you feel like you are running out of energy, give yourself a small break and do something that you enjoy to reward yourself but don't take too much time out unless it's a scheduled holiday.
Write down all the things you are grateful for in your life
All the great things that have happened in the past few week, it doesn't matter how small they might be. Be thankful and grateful for what you have, there is always someone in more need than you.
Strive to achieve and make things better for yourself, in a few months you can look back and see even more success.
Surround yourself with positive people.
Talk to others who understand what it is that you are trying to do.
Get motivated and find inspiration by following some enthusiastic mentors online, mine are Amy Porterfield, and Carrie Green as they are always so energetic.

7. Push yourself
Don't always do work that you are comfortable with, because eventually, you will start to lose your motivation. Actually pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone can be inspiring. So push yourself and step into that new challenge.
8. When beginning a creative task
Give yourself an activity that is suited to your current skills, don't make it too easy or too hard.
You must be in a positive mood and if not try to make yourself into one before you start. Positive attitude, positive thinking!
If you are feeling stressed I would suggest going for a walk to clear your head or concentrate on some drawing to distract and calm the mind. If you cannot draw then try using a colouring book as this is a meditation for the mind.
Avoid waiting until you're in a hurry to start a project because you won't have enough time to finish it. I often do this to myself, I think I have enough time then other things get in the way, the client is on her way and the hat is not finished yet and this creates stress. In fact, I think I probably do this to myself sometimes to make it more exciting. A bad habit!
9. Procrastination, Say NO to it!
I think this is easier said than done, Psychologists believe we delay starting a task to avoid the feeling of anxiety or worry associated with the challenge. The solution is to work out why you are feeling negative and how great you will feel once the project is completed.
Take it step by step, you don't have to complete the project all in one go, just start and this will give you motivation. Nothing has to be perfect but if you don't start how are you ever going to make it better?
Don't be so hard on yourself.
Ok that's a few points to be going on with, you dont have to take everything on board just pick a few and try to stay calm and stress free, enjoy your work and look forward to your new goals.
